Activities

Main fields of intervention carried out by Studio Naturalistico Milvus:

Avifauna census and monitoring
The studio functions as Basilicata regional coordinator for the monitoring project of nesting birds in Italy (MITO2000), in cooperation with Centro Italiano Studi Ornitologici. It collaborates in data collection for IWC (International Waterfowl Census) censuses promoted by Istituto Superiore per la Ricerca e l’Ambiente (ISPRA), with reference to the monitoring of wintering water birds’ colonies on national territory. He completed and is carrying out avifauna census and monitoring projects at a regional and district level in territories which neighbour or include protected areas.

Scientific avifauna ringing activities
Studio Naturalistico Milvus carries out scientific avifauna ringing projects for the monitoring of migratory, nesting and wintering birds’ colonies, with particular reference to the Passeriformes group. In relation to this field of activities, he runs a research programme in the ZPS (Special Protection Area) “Lago Pantano di Pignola”. Furthermore, he collaborated in similar activities in bird ringing stations in Umbria and Lombardia.

Incidence Assessments and Environmental Impact Research
Studio Naturalistico Milvus works on analysing fauna and ecosystem components within Incidence Assessments and Environmental Impact Research. In this field the studio realized fauna characterizations and monitoring plans in relation to the planning of wind power and photovoltaic systems and to activities connected with hydrocarbon extraction.

Realisation of Management Plans for Protected Areas
He collaborated in the compilation of management plans for protected areas, with particular reference to SIC and ZPS, by conducting specific ornithological inquiries in the field of activities coordinated by multidisciplinary working groups.

Environmental education and promotion
Studio Naturalistico Milvus conducted environmental education activities in co-operation with other public and private bodies, and organized promotional science events and demonstrations on the themes of fauna research and energy saving. Furthermore, he produced promotional material in the form of paper documents inherent to scientific research conducted in some areas of Basilicata.
